Chimneys & Lead Flashing

Chimney repointing, rebuilds and capping, plus lead work and flashing to Lead Sheet Association standards.

Roofer dressing new lead flashing around a chimney stack

Chimneys take more weather than any other part of the house, and failed chimney leadwork is behind a huge share of the leaks we are called to. We repoint, rebuild, cap and remove chimney stacks, and dress new leadwork that will outlast the roof around it.

All lead work is carried out to Lead Sheet Association standards, using the correct code of lead for each application, with proper expansion allowances and fixings.

What is included

  • Chimney repointing and flaunching
  • Full and partial chimney rebuilds
  • Capping off and cowls for disused stacks
  • Lead flashings, soakers and step flashing
  • Lead valleys, aprons and back gutters
  • Chimney removal below roofline where required

Common questions

Yes. An uncapped disused chimney lets in rain, birds and draughts. A simple cap or cowl keeps the weather out while keeping the flue ventilated.

Correctly detailed code 4 or code 5 leadwork should last 60 years or more. Most flashing failures we see come from poor original detailing, not the lead itself.
